First joint degree accredited
In November 2006, NVAO accredited the first joint degree: the European Master in Human Rights and Democratisation. This English Master’s programme of the European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation (EIUC) is supported by 39 universities from 24 countries*. Six institutions together offer one degree, the so-called joint degree.
Maastricht University and Catholic University Leuven will now be awarding this degree as well. The NVAO combined their requests for validation for this new programme and had the joint programme assessed by one international panel.
Students with a master’s degree qualify for the fulltime programme. The joint degree is aimed at lawyers, political scientists and philosophers. The programme is split up in two parts: during the first semester the students study in Venice, during the second semester they write their master thesis at one of the participating universities. Each year, ninety students can enroll, with three to five students coming from Maastricht or Leuven.
